Well, I suppose it's about time I put fingers to keyboard and wrote something! I was wondering the other day how this awful financial situation we are going through would impact on crime and our personal safety. It's interesting that even the home office acknowledge a link between the ongoing financial crisis and crime. In a leaked memo, the home office stated that they are expecting a rise in the crime figures the more the "credit crunch" bites. I know from my sources that the police have known this for some time. So, what can we do about it?

Well not alot if your talking about the credit crunch however when it comes to our personal safety there are measures that we can take.I am a supporter of the police, they do a fantastic, difficult and thankless job sometimes and without these brave men and women where would we be? We must take some sort of responsibility for our own personal safety. I would love to think that when it comes to street crime there
would be a police officer just around the corner when you needed them, but that is not the case, unfortunately involvement with the police with regards to an incident of street crime is normally "after the fact".

So "switch on" be aware and be sensible about the risks you take. Life itself is a risk! But please take some senisble precautions when out and about, travelling to and from work etc. We can all do our bit. My partner works in law enforcement and everytime he's off to work his thoughts are "I want to be safe today and come home and see the family". Not a bad way of thinking is it.

Until next time, stay safe
